Target intelligence / Profile preview
The melanocortin 5 receptor (MC5R) is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds melanocyte-stimulating hormones (MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). It is expressed in a wide variety of tissues including exocrine glands, adrenal gland, and immune cells. MC5R plays a role in lipid metabolism, energy homeostasis, immunomodulation, thermoregulation and pheromone signaling. It is a potential therapeutic target for obesity, diabetes, and inflammatory diseases.
Agonism or antagonism of the melanocortin 5 receptor, modulating cAMP/PKA and PI3K-ERK signaling pathways.
