Target intelligence / Profile preview
Melanoma antigen family C1 (MAGEC1) is a cancer-testis antigen expressed in a variety of tumors but largely silent in normal somatic tissues, with the exception of the testis. It contains unique N-terminal repetitive sequences and is significantly longer than other MAGE family members. Its aberrant expression in cancers like melanoma and multiple myeloma is often associated with increased cell proliferation and poor clinical outcomes. MAGEC1 is a target for cancer immunotherapy due to its restricted expression profile.
As a cancer-testis antigen, MAGEC1's expression is largely restricted to tumors and testicular tissue, making it an attractive target for cancer immunotherapy. Current strategies aim to elicit a cytotoxic T cell response specifically against MAGEC1-expressing tumor cells.
