Melanoma-associated antigen 4

Molecular classification
Cancer/testis antigen, MAGE-A subfamily protein
01

Overview

Melanoma-associated antigen 4 (MAGEA4) is a protein encoded by the MAGEA4 gene. It belongs to the MAGE-A subfamily and is classified as a cancer/testis antigen. MAGEA4 is highly expressed in male germ line cells, placental tissue, and various tumor types. It plays a role in cell cycle regulation and inhibits p53-mediated apoptosis, contributing to tumor survival. It interacts with Gankyrin to inhibit carcinogenesis. MAGEA4 is a target for immunotherapy, with genetically modified T cells and vaccines under clinical investigation. Its expression level can also serve as a prognostic marker in certain cancers.
