Overview
MAGEA12 is a cancer/testis antigen that is normally expressed only in germ cells, but is aberrantly activated in various cancers. It plays a role in tumor progression by repressing tumor suppressor genes and promoting cell viability. MAGEA12 regulates the cell cycle and its expression is associated with poor prognosis in cancer. It is considered a potential target for immunotherapy, but with risks of off-tumor toxicity.
