Melanoma-associated tumor antigens (TAAs) are molecules, often proteins or peptides, expressed by melanoma cells that can be recognized by the immune system. These antigens include differentiation antigens (gp100, Melan-A/MART-1, tyrosinase), cancer/testis antigens (MAGE-A1, MAGE-A4, NY-ESO-1), and cell surface markers (ErbB3, CD44, ICAM-1). They serve as targets for diagnostic assays and immunotherapeutic strategies, including checkpoint inhibitors, adoptive T-cell transfer, cancer vaccines, and monoclonal antibodies. Heterogeneous expression and potential for immune escape remain challenges in targeting these antigens.
