Target intelligence / Profile preview
Livin, also known as BIRC7, is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAP) family. It plays crucial roles in regulating apoptosis, cell proliferation, and cell cycle control. Livin contains an N-terminal BIR domain that binds to caspases and a C-terminal RING finger domain with E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. It inhibits apoptosis by suppressing caspase activity and promoting the degradation of SMAC/DIABLO. Livin expression is generally low in normal adult tissues but is highly expressed in certain cancers, making it a promising therapeutic target.
