Membrane metallo-endopeptidase-like 1 (MMEL1)

Target
MMEL1

Overview

Membrane metallo-endopeptidase-like 1 (MMEL1) is a member of the neutral endopeptidase (NEP) or membrane metallo-endopeptidase (MME) family. It is a type II transmembrane protein that may also exist in a secreted form, and is mainly expressed in testis, with limited expression in brain, kidney, and heart. MMEL1 acts as a metalloprotease involved in sperm function, potentially by modulating the processes of fertilization and early embryonic development. The broader NEP family, to which MMEL1 belongs, is implicated in pain perception, arterial pressure regulation, phosphate metabolism, and homeostasis[1][2][3][4][5][6].
