Membrane Progesterone Receptor Delta (mPRδ)

Target
mPRδ
Molecular classification
Receptor, Progestin and adipoQ receptor family (PAQR), G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)-like
01

Overview

Membrane progesterone receptor delta (mPRδ) is a member of the membrane progesterone receptor (mPR) family, also known as progestin and adipoQ receptor family members (PAQRs). It mediates rapid, non-genomic actions of progesterone. mPRδ is encoded by the PAQR6 gene and is primarily located at the plasma membrane. Structurally, it is predicted to have seven transmembrane domains, similar to G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Upon activation by progesterone, mPRδ couples to G proteins, leading to modulation of second messenger systems such as cAMP levels. It is widely distributed across vertebrate tissues and participates in diverse functions including reproductive processes, neuroprotection, behavior regulation, and immune function.
