Membrane progesterone receptor epsilon (mPRε), also known as PAQR9, is one of the five identified isoforms of membrane progesterone receptors (mPRs), which are part of the progestin and adipoQ receptor (PAQR) family. mPRs mediate rapid, non-genomic actions of progesterone and are distinct from classical nuclear progesterone receptors. mPRε is a high-affinity plasma membrane receptor for progesterone, coupled to G proteins, and implicated in mediating rapid cellular responses to progesterone in various tissues including the reproductive system, neuroendocrine system, and immune system.
Binds progesterone with high affinity and activates G protein-coupled signaling pathways, primarily G(s)-mediated, modulating cAMP/PKA pathways.
