Overview

Membrane-spanning 4-domains subfamily A member 3 (MS4A3) is a human protein encoded by the MS4A3 gene, a member of the membrane-spanning 4A gene family, which is defined by a common structural motif with four transmembrane domains. MS4A3 is predominantly expressed in hematopoietic cells and may serve as a modulator for the G1-S transition of the cell cycle by influencing cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) activity, through direct interaction with cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 3 (CDKN3). Though included in studies of immune signaling and cell-cycle regulation, there are no approved drugs or therapeutic agents currently targeting MS4A3 directly. Disease associations include hereditary essential tremor and intellectual developmental disorders, though its precise roles in broader immunological or hematological diseases are still being characterized.
