Membrane Type 1-Matrix Metalloprotease (MT1-MMP), also known as MMP14, is a zinc-dependent type I transmembrane metalloproteinase and a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. It plays a crucial role in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling by degrading various ECM components and activating other proteases. MT1-MMP is essential for cell migration, invasion, and angiogenesis, making it an attractive target for anti-cancer therapies. Elevated expression is correlated with poor prognosis in several cancers. It is also implicated in cardiovascular disease and arthritis.
