Memory T cell induction

Overview

Memory T cell induction refers to the process by which antigen exposure and T cell activation via antigen-presenting cells, co-stimulatory molecules (such as CD28), and cytokine signaling (such as Type I interferons, IL-2, IL-12) result in the differentiation of a subset of activated T cells into long-lived memory T cells. These memory T cells quickly expand and execute effector functions upon re-exposure to their cognate antigen, delivering accelerated and robust immune responses that underlie immunological memory. Memory T cells come in multiple subsets—including central memory T cells (Tcm), effector memory T cells (Tem), tissue-resident memory T cells (Trm), and others—which differ in tissue localization, surface markers, and functional roles.
