Overview

MESD pseudogene 1 (MESDP1) is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it is a DNA sequence that resembles the functional MESD (mesoderm development LRP chaperone) gene but is generally nonfunctional due to accumulated mutations, truncations, or lack of regulatory elements[6][2][5]. Pseudogenes like MESDP1 do not encode functional proteins and are not considered canonical drug or therapeutic targets; however, some pseudogenes in general may exert regulatory effects via competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activity, acting as miRNA decoys, or impacting epigenetic regulation, although no such function is specifically known or validated for MESDP1[2][5][6]. There is no evidence that MESD pseudogene 1 is associated with any therapeutic drugs, mechanisms of action, or clinical biomarkers. In summary, MESD pseudogene 1 is not a therapeutic target but is a nonfunctional genomic sequence related to mesoderm development genes.
