Mesenchymal Epithelial Transition Factor Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (MET)

Target
MET
Molecular classification
Receptor Tyrosine Kinase, Receptor
01

Overview

MET is a receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a central role in cellular processes such as proliferation, survival, motility, morphogenesis, and angiogenesis. It is the product of the MET proto-oncogene and is primarily expressed on epithelial cells. Its natural ligand is hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), also known as scatter factor. Aberrant activation via overexpression or mutation leads to increased tumor cell proliferation, survival, invasion/metastasis (especially through epithelial-mesenchymal transition [EMT]), angiogenesis. Therapeutic strategies target this axis with small molecule inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, and antagonists to suppress tumor progression.
