Target intelligence / Profile preview

Messenger RNA (mRNA)

Target
mRNA
Molecular classification
RNA, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

Messenger RNA (mRNA) is a single-stranded RNA molecule transcribed from DNA that carries genetic instructions from the cell nucleus to the cytoplasm, where it serves as a template for protein synthesis by ribosomes. In eukaryotes, mature mRNAs have a 5' cap and a 3' poly-A tail. Synthetic mRNAs are used therapeutically as vaccines or gene therapies.

02

Mechanism of action

Synthetic mRNAs are translated into proteins within cells, eliciting a therapeutic effect or immune response.
