Overview

Metallophosphoesterase 1 pseudogene (LOC100419861; ENSG00000251286) is a non-functional genomic locus classified as a processed pseudogene of the Metallophosphoesterase 1 (MPPE1) gene[1][3]. Pseudogenes are DNA segments similar to functional genes, but typically lack the capacity to produce full-length, functional proteins—often due to sequence disablements that prevent normal transcription or translation[4]. While MPPE1 itself encodes a metallophosphoesterase involved in glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor protein transport and has been linked to cancer biology[5], its pseudogene (LOC100419861) is not translated and is not considered a therapeutic target. Pseudogenes may have minor roles in post-transcriptional regulation or genomic stability but are not recognized as direct drug targets, nor are they implicated in clinical diagnostics or established disease mechanisms[4]. When reviewing this locus, it should not be conflated with Metallophosphoesterase 1 (MPPE1), which is a validated gene and has biological activity[5].
