Methionine Aminopeptidase 1 (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Exopeptidase, Metalloproteinase
01

Overview

Methionine aminopeptidase 1 (MetAP1) is an enzyme responsible for the cotranslational removal of the N-terminal methionine from nascent proteins. This process is essential and highly conserved. MetAP1 regulates cell cycle progression, particularly at the G2/M phase transition. Inhibition of MetAP1 can induce apoptosis in cancer cells. It is a dinuclear metalloenzyme with a conserved "pita bread" fold. Selective inhibitors are being developed as anticancer drugs.
