Methionine Aminopeptidase 2

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Metallopeptidase, Aminopeptidase
01

Overview

Methionine aminopeptidase 2 (MetAP2) is a cytosolic metalloenzyme that catalyzes the hydrolytic removal of N-terminal methionine from newly synthesized proteins, a post-translational modification essential for proper protein maturation and function. It is a target for antiangiogenic drugs due to its role in endothelial cell proliferation and angiogenesis, particularly in cancer therapy. Overexpression is observed in some cancers and may play a role in fibrotic diseases. Natural products like fumagillin and ovalicin are potent inhibitors of MetAP2.
