Target intelligence / Profile preview

Methionine aminopeptidase type 2 (MetAP2)

Target
MetAP2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Exopeptidase, Dimetallohydrolase
01

Overview

MetAP2 is a cytosolic metalloenzyme that catalyzes the hydrolytic removal of N-terminal methionine residues from nascent proteins, a critical step in protein maturation and function. It plays an essential role in the regulation of protein synthesis by cotranslationally removing the initiator methionine. MetAP2 regulates angiogenesis, making it a target for anti-cancer therapies. Inhibitors targeting MetAP2 have shown efficacy in reducing hunger and inducing weight loss, leading to investigations into its potential use against metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes.
