Overview

Methyl-accepting chemotaxis protein RS10815 (also identified by the locus tag ACU12_RS10815) is a transmembrane sensory receptor found in the phytopathogenic bacterium Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc), which causes bacterial leaf streak (BLS) in rice plants. This protein acts as a primary chemoreceptor that detects specific environmental nitrogenous cues, including ethanolamine, tyramine, and various aliphatic amines, which are abundant during host-pathogen interactions. Upon ligand binding, RS10815 initiates a signal transduction cascade that regulates flagellar motility, enabling the bacterium to navigate toward and colonize host tissues. Research has demonstrated that RS10815 is an essential virulence factor; its deletion significantly reduces the pathogen's ability to enter rice leaves and cause disease symptoms. While there are currently no commercial agrochemicals or drugs targeting this specific receptor, it represents a promising candidate for the development of anti-virulence agents. Such strategies aim to control agricultural diseases by disrupting the pathogen's sensory apparatus without the broad-spectrum toxicity or high selective pressure typical of traditional antibiotics.
