Overview

Methyl-CpG-binding domain protein 3-like 4 is encoded by a human gene (MBD3L4) belonging to a family of proteins related to methyl-CpG-binding proteins but lacking the methyl-CpG binding domain. There is no definitive support for transcription of this locus, and the transcript structure is inferred from other family members. It is predicted—not experimentally confirmed—to have roles in DNA methylation-dependent heterochromatin formation and negative regulation of transcription[1][3][7]. Low confidence in protein structure and lack of direct biological data indicate its target status is questionable and the entry may not represent a functional protein in humans[3][5]. Disease associations are noted but not strongly substantiated. There are no drugs, established mechanisms, or known biomarker or safety issues associated with this gene.
