Target intelligence / Profile preview

Methylthioadenosine phosphorylase pseudogene 1 (MTAPP1)

Target
MTAPP1
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

Methylthioadenosine phosphorylase pseudogene 1 (MTAPP1) is a nonfunctional segment of DNA that resembles the functional methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (MTAP) gene but has lost its ability to code for a protein due to mutations and other interruptions. Pseudogenes such as MTAPP1 may occasionally be transcribed into RNA, but they do not produce functional enzymes and are generally not considered meaningful drug targets or biological receptors.

02

Mechanism of action

None (as a pseudogene, MTAPP1 does not code for a protein product and thus has no drug interactions)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes are nonfunctional DNA segments that resemble functional genes)
04

Disease associations

None specific for MTAPP1; some pseudogenes in general may influence cancer and other conditions via RNA-mediated mechanisms, but there is no evidence for a specific role for MTAPP1.
05

Safety considerations

None specific; as a pseudogene, it is not a therapeutic target
