Overview

METTL5 pseudogene 4 (METTL5P4) is a pseudogene found on human chromosome 11. Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes such as METTL5P4 are typically nonfunctional genomic sequences that resemble genes encoding known proteins (in this case, the RNA methyltransferase METTL5) but lack the capacity to encode a functional protein. There is no evidence in the scientific literature of METTL5P4 producing a functional enzyme, participating in regulatory pathways, or being a therapeutic target. No biological function, pathway involvement, or disease association of METTL5P4 has been reported. The functional and disease roles described for METTL5 (an rRNA N6-adenosine-methyltransferase) do not apply to METTL5P4, which is classified as a noncoding pseudogene[4].
