Overview

MFF pseudogene 2 (MFFP2) is a retrotransposed, processed pseudogene of the mitochondrial fission factor (MFF) gene in humans, mapped to chromosome 7[3][11]. It does not code for a functional protein product. Like most processed pseudogenes, MFFP2 contains exonic sequences similar to its parent gene but lacks introns and often critical regulatory/protein-coding elements, typically rendering it transcriptionally silent or non-functional[3][9][11]. There is no evidence that MFFP2 acts as a therapeutic target, nor are there reports of its involvement in disease or cellular processes. Cataloged as HGNC:54540, it is considered a non-coding genomic element[10][11]. The functional, protein-coding gene MFF (mitochondrial fission factor) is responsible for mitochondrial and peroxisomal fission[1][4], but MFFP2 is not known to have any corresponding activity or relevance in cell biology or medicine. MFF pseudogene 2 is not a therapeutic target, is not known to be functional, and is cataloged as a processed pseudogene. No disease involvement, molecular activity, or aliases beyond its systematic name are reported.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable.

03

Biological functions

None established; as a pseudogene, does not produce a functional protein
04

Disease associations

None directly; pseudogenes occasionally impact disease via gene regulation or as regulatory RNAs in rare cases, but no evidence or annotation of disease association for MFFP2 specifically
