Overview

MGAT2 pseudogene 1 (MGAT2P1) is a human pseudogene related to the functional MGAT2 gene, which encodes an enzyme involved in N-glycan synthesis and lipid metabolism. However, as a pseudogene, MGAT2P1 does not encode a functional protein and is not implicated in any known biological processes, diseases, or as a target for therapeutic intervention. The functional MGAT2 gene (alpha-1,6-mannosyl-glycoprotein 2-beta-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase) is well characterized, but MGAT2P1 itself is non-coding. There may be some confusion with MGAT2, a functional gene involved in N-glycan branching and lipid metabolism, which is a therapeutic target. MGAT2P1, by contrast, is a pseudogene and not a target. No relevant functional or clinical data exist for MGAT2P1. If the intention was to refer to the active MGAT2 enzyme, a different entry for the functional gene should be used. MGAT2P1 is a non-functional pseudogene, not a therapeutic target, and lacks biological and clinical significance in current scientific literature.
