MHC class I chain-related proteins A and B (MICA/B) are stress-induced cell surface glycoproteins that act as ligands for the activating immune receptor NKG2D, expressed on NK cells, γδ T cells, and CD8+ αβ T cells. They serve as "danger signals" on stressed or transformed cells, triggering immune responses. Shedding of MICA/B can lead to immune evasion, making them important targets for cancer immunotherapy.
