Microbial cell envelopes and intracellular macromolecules represent the collective structural and functional components of pathogenic microorganisms that serve as the primary targets for antimicrobial therapy. The cell envelope, consisting of the cell wall (e.g., peptidoglycan in bacteria) and the cytoplasmic membrane, provides essential protection against osmotic pressure and environmental stress [1]. Intracellular macromolecules include the microbial genome (DNA), transcription machinery (RNA), and the translation apparatus (ribosomes), which are vital for the survival, growth, and replication of the pathogen [2]. Antimicrobial drugs are designed to exploit the biochemical differences between these microbial structures and human cells to achieve selective toxicity.
