Microbial nucleic acids refer to the DNA and RNA molecules found within microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. These nucleic acids serve as the primary information-carrying molecules in microbial cells, encoding genetic instructions essential for survival, replication, adaptation, and pathogenicity. Microbial nucleic acids are critical targets for diagnostics (e.g., PCR-based detection), antimicrobial drugs that inhibit replication/transcription processes (e.g., quinolones targeting bacterial gyrase/topoisomerase), and immune recognition mechanisms.
