Target intelligence / Profile preview
Microcirculation enhancement refers to the therapeutic approach or physiological process of improving the function of the smallest blood vessels (arterioles, capillaries, venules) to increase tissue perfusion, oxygen delivery, and metabolic waste removal. Effective microcirculatory function depends on the integrity and regulation of vascular tone, endothelial permeability, angiogenesis, and neurohumoral signaling pathways. While not a single molecular target, microcirculation enhancement is a clinical endpoint or therapeutic strategy addressed via diverse mechanisms—including increased nitric oxide availability, suppression of inflammation and oxidative stress, improved mitochondrial function, restoration of endothelial barrier integrity, and stimulation of angiogenic pathways (notably via VEGF and its receptors). Key molecular players involved include nitric oxide synthase, VEGF/VEGF receptors, elements of the complement pathway, and endothelial tight junction proteins, but none of these is specifically or exclusively called “Microcirculation enhancement.” Thus, this term is best categorized as a process or therapeutic objective, not a single drug, protein, or gene product.
