The microcirculation comprises the smallest blood vessels—arterioles, capillaries, and venules—that form the terminal vascular network responsible for the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, metabolic waste, hormones, and signaling molecules between blood and tissues[1][3][5][7]. Microcirculation function refers to the integrated ability of this network to deliver oxygen and nutrients, regulate tissue perfusion, support local immune responses, and maintain tissue homeostasis. Impairment of microcirculatory function is a hallmark of various diseases, particularly diabetes, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory conditions, and chronic wounds[4]. While no specific drug targets "microcirculation function" directly as a receptor or molecule, improving microcirculatory function is an important therapeutic and diagnostic goal in clinical medicine. Microcirculation function is not a molecular target but a physiological property of the microvasculature. Its assessment and modulation are important in the management of numerous diseases, but it does not correspond to a canonical molecular entity or drug target[1][3][5].
