Overview

Microfibril associated protein 1 pseudogene 1 (MFAP1P1) is a human pseudogene similar in sequence to the microfibril associated protein 1 gene. Unlike its protein-coding parent, MFAP1P1 does not encode a functional protein and thus is not a direct protein target for therapeutic agents. Some pseudogenes have regulatory roles, such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or influencing the stability of mRNAs from their parent genes, but no direct evidence currently supports such roles for MFAP1P1. Pseudogenes can sometimes contribute to disease indirectly, for example via gene conversion events or by affecting gene regulation. MFAP1P1 itself is not considered a conventional drug target nor classified within typical receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor families[1][5][3].

Microfibrillar-associated protein 1 pseudogene 1
02

Biological functions

May compete for regulatory molecules affecting parent MFAP1 gene expression or act as a non-coding RNA
03

Disease associations

None directly; disease roles of pseudogenes are generally indirect, if any, by modulating expression or being involved in gene conversion events that affect parental gene function
