Microglia infiltration refers to the process by which microglial cells migrate into and populate the central nervous system, particularly during embryonic development and in response to CNS injury, infection, or disease. Microglia are the CNS-resident macrophages, originating from yolk sac progenitors, and play essential roles in immune defense, brain development, and maintenance of neurocircuitry[1][3][6]. Infiltration also describes the process by which microglia or peripheral immune cells enter brain regions in pathological conditions, contributing to neuroinflammation and disease progression, such as in epilepsy and neurodegenerative disease[2][3][5]. However, "microglia infiltration" is not itself a molecular target, receptor, enzyme, or druggable protein, but a dynamic and context-dependent cellular process.
