Overview

Micropeptide inhibiting actin cytoskeleton (MIAC) is a 51-amino acid micropeptide encoded by the lncRNA AQP5-AS1 (also called AC025154.2). Recent research has shown that MIAC is endogenously expressed in humans and acts as a tumor suppressor by regulating the actin cytoskeleton, mainly through direct interaction with Aquaporin 2 (AQP2). This leads to inhibition of tumor growth and metastasis, especially in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Low expression of MIAC is associated with worse survival outcomes in cancer patients. MIAC also modulates signaling via SEPT2 and ITGB4 and can influence EGFR pathway activity, further impacting cancer progression.
