MicroRNA 101-1 (miR-101-1) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA, encoded by the MIR101-1 gene on chromosome 1p31.3. It acts chiefly as a tumor suppressor in multiple cancer types by post-transcriptionally repressing several oncogenes (notably EZH2, MCL-1, and FOS), and thereby suppresses tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion, stemness, and drug resistance[1][2][3]. It is highly conserved, regulates gene expression mainly via binding to the 3’ untranslated region (3’UTR) of target mRNAs, and participates in processes such as apoptosis, angiogenesis, and modulation of the tumor microenvironment[1][2]. Its downregulation is associated with poor prognosis in various cancers; conversely, there is some evidence for context-dependent oncogenic roles in select malignancies[2][3].
