MicroRNA 107 (miR-107) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule belonging to the microRNA family. It plays a significant role in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to target mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translational repression. It regulates multiple cellular pathways, including cell proliferation, angiogenesis and lipid metabolism. miR-107 is implicated in diseases such as Alzheimer's and various cancers where it can have context-dependent roles.
miR-107 binds primarily to the 3′ untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs through imperfect base pairing, leading either to inhibition of translation initiation/elongation or direct mRNA degradation.
