MicroRNA 10b (miR-10b) is a small non-coding RNA molecule involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. It plays a significant role in cancer biology, particularly in promoting metastasis and maintaining cancer stem cell properties. miR-10b functions by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translational repression. It is overexpressed in metastatic lesions and promotes cell migration and invasion by targeting key regulators such as HOXD10. Inhibition of miR-10b is being explored as a therapeutic strategy for aggressive and refractory cancers.
