MicroRNA 1182 (miR-1182)

Target
miR-1182
Molecular classification
microRNA, Non-coding RNA, Regulatory RNA
01

Overview

MicroRNA 1182 is a small, non-coding RNA (20-24 nucleotides) classified as a microRNA (miRNA) involved in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression[1]. It functions by binding target mRNAs, typically resulting in translational inhibition or mRNA destabilization through the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC)[1]. MicroRNA 1182 has been identified as a tumor suppressor in cholangiocarcinoma, where it synergizes with let-7a to inhibit cancer cell invasion, migration, autophagy, and tumor progression by targeting and suppressing NUAK1[3]. Like other miRNAs, MIR1182 is implicated in regulating a range of cellular processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis, and has potential as both a disease biomarker and a therapeutic target, particularly in oncology[1][3][6].

Mechanism of action

Down-regulation of target gene expression (e.g., NUAK1 in cholangiocarcinoma) via sequence-specific binding to mRNA. Inhibition of cell proliferation, invasion, and migration by targeting specific mRNAs.

03

Biological functions

Post-transcriptional regulation of gene expressionRegulation of mRNA stabilityInhibition of translationModulation of cell invasion and migrationRegulation of autophagy
04

Disease associations

Cancer (e.g., cholangiocarcinoma)Potentially other malignancies (based on miRNA class functions)
05

Safety considerations

Therapeutic manipulation of miRNAs carries off-target and delivery challenges[6]Potential for broad gene regulatory effects leading to unintended consequences
06

Biomarkers

miR-1182 itself may serve as a biomarker for certain cancers where its expression is dysregulated[3]
