MicroRNA 1185-2 is a short, non-coding RNA molecule that functions in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by binding to target messenger RNAs, leading to their degradation or translational repression. It is part of a larger regulatory network of miRNAs that modulate a wide array of cellular processes, including protein biosynthesis, cell death, stress response, and signaling pathways crucial in disease development such as cancer and neurodegeneration. MIR1185-2 has been identified as consistently downregulated in plasma/serum samples from subjects with mild cognitive impairment, and its predicted mRNA targets link it to multiple cellular functions and disease-relevant molecular pathways, including FoxO, PI3K-Akt, MAPK, Hippo, TGF-beta, and Toll-like receptor signaling. MIR1185-2 is thus a potential molecular biomarker and therapeutic target in neurology and oncology.
