Overview

MicroRNA 1197 is a small (~22 nucleotide) non-coding RNA molecule found in humans, encoded by the MIR1197 gene. Like other microRNAs, it is transcribed as part of a longer precursor (pri-miRNA), processed in the nucleus by Drosha into a stem-loop pre-miRNA, then exported and cleaved by Dicer in the cytoplasm to yield the mature miRNA. The mature miR-1197 is incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), which recognizes partially complementary sequences in mRNA targets, leading to translational repression or mRNA destabilization. miR-1197 has been implicated in cancer biology, specifically in the regulation of tumor cell proliferation and migration. Its expression levels have been associated with disease stage and prognosis in cancers such as non-small cell lung cancer and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, suggesting utility as a biomarker. There are no known approved drugs directly targeting miR-1197, but miRNA pathways are an area of active research for novel therapeutic strategies[1][2][4].
