MicroRNA 1202 (miR-1202)

Target
miR-1202
Molecular classification
microRNA, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

MicroRNA 1202 is a primate-specific, brain-enriched microRNA (~20-24 nucleotides) that regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by targeting sites in the coding regions and 3'-UTRs of specific mRNAs. It negatively regulates GATA-1 expression in myeloid cells, acting as an anti-oncomiR and suppressor of myeloid leukemia proliferation while promoting apoptosis via modulation of Bax/Bcl-xL protein levels[1]. In the brain, miR-1202 is highly expressed and predicted to regulate cognitive and psychiatric phenotypes by targeting the metabotropic glutamate receptor gene GRM4, with reduced levels associated with major depressive disorder and response to antidepressant therapy[3]. miR-1202 may serve as both a therapeutic target and biomarker in cancer and neuropsychiatric diseases[1][3][2].
