MicroRNA-1205 (miR-1205) is a small, non-coding regulatory RNA encoded by the PVT1 locus at chromosome 8q24 and acts post-transcriptionally to regulate gene expression by binding to complementary sequences on target mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translation inhibition. miR-1205 is underexpressed in several human cancers, including prostate cancer and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, and acts as a tumor suppressor by directly targeting and inhibiting oncogenic mRNAs such as FRYL and E2F1. Functionally, overexpression of miR-1205 can induce apoptosis, suppress tumor growth, and inhibit cancer cell migration and invasion, with evidence suggesting involvement in neural pathways and neuroendocrine differentiation. Its expression levels have been associated with disease progression and prognosis, and mimics of miR-1205 are in preclinical development as a potential therapeutic strategy in oncology.
