Overview

MicroRNA 1228 (miR-1228, also known as hsa-mir-1228) is a member of the microRNA family, a class of short (20–24 nucleotide) non-coding RNAs involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by destabilizing target mRNAs or repressing their translation. It is transcribed as an RNA stem-loop and processed to a mature miRNA incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). MiR-1228 is widely recognized as a highly stable and reliable endogenous control for the normalization of circulating microRNA measurements in human plasma and serum, especially in the context of cancer biomarker studies. It does not appear to be a direct drug target or receptor, but plays housekeeping-like roles in gene expression regulation and is used as a technical reference in diagnostics.
