Overview

MicroRNA 1247 (miR-1247) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that functions as a gene regulator by binding to specific target mRNAs and repressing their translation or promoting their degradation[3]. It has been shown to directly target key genes such as the transcription factor SOX9, essential for cartilage formation and function, indicating a role in skeletal and cartilage biology[1]. In addition, miR-1247 acts as a tumor suppressor in pancreatic cancer by targeting the regulator of chromosome condensation 2 (RCC2), and its expression is frequently downregulated in cancer through epigenetic silencing by promoter hypermethylation, suggesting diagnostic and therapeutic relevance in oncology[2]. Its biological activities include regulation of cell differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and maintenance of cell identity across various tissues.
