MicroRNA 1250 (miR-1250, hsa-mir-1250) is a small, single-stranded, non-coding RNA molecule, part of the microRNA (miRNA) family, which is 20–24 nucleotides long. Like other miRNAs, it regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs), resulting in translational inhibition or destabilization of the target mRNA. miR-1250 is located within the intron of the Apoptosis-Associated Tyrosine Kinase (AATK) gene on chromosome 17q25.3 in humans. It has been implicated in the regulation of cellular processes such as apoptosis, cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inflammatory response, particularly in brain and endocrine tissues. Altered expression of miR-1250-5p is associated with conditions like ischemic stroke and endocrine gland cancer; its disease mechanisms may involve direct regulation of metastasis-associated and angiogenesis-related factors. No known drugs target miR-1250 directly.
