Overview

MicroRNA 125b-1 (miR-125b-1) is a short, endogenous, non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 11q24.1 that is processed to produce mature miR-125b, a microRNA incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). It regulates gene expression post-transcriptionally by binding to the 3′ untranslated region of target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. miR-125b-1 plays crucial roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, immune function, and especially the modulation of cancer-related processes, including tumor growth, invasion, metastasis, drug resistance, and tumor immunity. Dysregulation of miR-125b-1 is implicated in several cancers (such as breast cancer and lymphoma), as well as inflammatory and cardiovascular conditions. Its expression in tissues or circulation is being explored as a sensitive biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis[1][2][3][4].

Mechanism of action

Modulation of drug resistance via regulation of target mRNA degradation/inhibition. AntagomiRs (antisense oligonucleotides targeting miR-125b) act as experimental inhibitors.

06

Interacting drugs

None established as direct small-molecule drugs; some chemotherapeutics (e.g., cetuximab, vincristine) are affected by miR-125b-mediated resistance rather than direct interaction
