Overview

MicroRNA 1261 (MIR1261) is a short (20–24 nucleotide) non-coding RNA molecule classified as a microRNA (miRNA), which participates in post-transcriptional gene regulatory processes in multicellular organisms by modulating the stability and translation of messenger RNAs through imperfect base pairing[1]. MIR1261, like other miRNAs, is transcribed as part of capped and polyadenylated primary transcripts, processed by Drosha and Dicer ribonucleases to yield a mature miRNA that joins the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to guide gene silencing. While miRNAs generally regulate various biological processes and can have significant disease roles, current evidence does not highlight specific, well-supported disease associations or therapeutic targeting for MIR1261 at this time[1].
