MicroRNA 1262 (miR-1262) is a short (typically 20–24 nucleotides) non-coding RNA molecule transcribed by RNA polymerase II. It functions as part of the microRNA machinery, regulating gene expression by degrading target mRNA or inhibiting their translation following binding through imperfect base pairing. The mature miR-1262 is produced from a stem-loop precursor and incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC), controlling mRNA targets. Diseases associated with genetic loci of miR-1262 include cardia cancer and gastric cardia adenocarcinoma, but its specific role and regulatory network are still being elucidated. No direct therapeutic drugs, biomarkers, or safety profiles are established for miR-1262 at this time.
