Overview

MicroRNA 1268b is a non-coding RNA that post-transcriptionally regulates gene expression primarily by targeting mRNA transcripts for degradation or translational inhibition. It has been shown to confer increased sensitivity to chemotherapeutic drugs (notably adriamycin) in breast cancer cells by targeting ERBB2 (HER2), leading to enhanced apoptosis via PI3K-AKT pathway inhibition[1]. MiR-1268b expression is upregulated in chemosensitive and HER2-negative breast cancer tissues and cell lines, and its overexpression induces cancer cell apoptosis without affecting proliferation or migration[1]. Clinically, miR-1268b in serum has demonstrated strong predictive value for resectable lung cancer, suggesting utility as a cancer biomarker[3]. Mechanism of action

Modulation of ERBB2 (HER2) receptor expression: miR-1268b directly targets ERBB2 mRNA, reducing HER2 protein levels and regulating the PI3K-AKT pathway. Induction of apoptosis by altering expression of PI3KCA, AKT, and BCL2, downstream of ERBB2.
