Target intelligence / Profile preview
MicroRNA 1270 (miR-1270) is a human microRNA gene whose mature transcript performs regulatory functions in gene expression by binding to perfectly or imperfectly matched sites on target messenger RNAs, promoting their degradation or repressing their translation. It has been found to be downregulated in multiple human cancers, acting as a putative tumor suppressor in breast, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers by inhibiting cell proliferation, promoting apoptosis, and suppressing migratory and invasive phenotypes. Key experimentally validated targets include MMD2 (in breast cancer) and NR3C1/glucocorticoid receptor (in pancreatic cancer). Manipulation of miR-1270 levels (mimics or inhibitors) in cell models or animal xenografts has shown marked effects on tumor growth and cell survival, and its expression levels are being studied as prognostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets. While miR-1270 itself does not code for a protein, it is part of the broader microRNA family involved in multiple aspects of cellular homeostasis, differentiation, and pathology, including tumorigenesis.
miR-1270 mimics restore or enhance endogenous tumor-suppressor miR-1270 function, thereby downregulating oncogenic targets and suppressing malignancy. miR-1270 inhibitors reduce its activity, which can increase cell proliferation (research context).
