MicroRNA-1271-5p is a short, single-stranded RNA molecule (approx. 22 nucleotides) derived from the human miR-1271 precursor. It regulates the expression of multiple genes post-transcriptionally, generally by binding to complementary sites on target mRNAs leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. miR-1271-5p is dysregulated in various cancer types, acting as a tumor suppressor or, in select contexts, as a tumor promoter. Its biological roles include regulation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and differentiation, often by controlling levels of key transcription factors and signaling proteins. In recent studies, altered miR-1271-5p expression is linked with both prognosis and therapeutic response in oncology, as well as with delayed bone healing.
miR-1271-5p mimics: Suppress target gene(s), e.g., ZIC2, MYB, PTP4A1, ACY-1, and NOXA, leading to inhibition of proliferation, induction of apoptosis, suppression of migration/invasion, and impact on EMT in tumor cells. Antagomir/inhibitor: Prevents endogenous miR-1271-5p action, allowing its mRNA targets to escape repression, with opposite physiological effects.
